Marine Electronics Scholarships, Safety & Training, History

The International Marine Electronics Alliance (IMEA) is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit supporting organization of the National marine Electronics Association (NMEA). A primary goal of IMEA is expanding its scholarship program to encourage and support students interested in a career in marine electronics. The goal is to alleviate the marine electronics industry worker shortage through education of students to become technical installers of marine electronics and increase the number of qualified new employees for NMEA member companies.

The IMEA supports global efforts to establish, educate, install, operate, and maintain safe and reliable electronics aboard all vessels. IMEA is an Alliance not a member Association. The International Marine Electronics Alliance (IMEA) focuses on maritime safety which encompasses scientific research education, and data interfaces. IMEA will serve as the NMEA technical interface with international standards bodies and organizations. IMEA will encourage the development of fair and uniform installation practices, and rules and regulations for the safety benefit of all stakeholders involved with marine electronics. IMEA is dedicated to serve the worldwide maritime industry by creating and promoting educational programming to improve the excellence of the marine electronics industry resulting in greater understanding and awareness of public safety for the boater. IMEA collaborates with other nonprofit associations and governmental agencies to provide both operational and technical marine electronics education and validation of marine electronics performance through testing and development. IMEA will be involved in pursuing the development and maintenance of NMEA Digital interfaces for the global marine electronics market. This would include other conformity assessment bodies, commercial interests, governmental safety requirements, marine electronics manufacturers, integrators, dealers, installers, and end users.
